I have a customer with SBS2011 in a small office. We support them remotely and spend a lot of time keeping their backups running. They currently use Backup Exec 10D and an external QNAP NAS. BE is configured with a full monthly plus differential jobs daily, with Friday diffs being kept for longer. The monthly is about 600GB and the dailies get up to 100GB.
They are a structural engineering practice and have a lot of CAD files (in excess of 500GB) and a 30+GB Mailstore.
I want to move them to a different strategy for the following reasons:
- need to get data offsite
- need to enable fast recovery (their RTO is 1 day and RPO is also 1 day)
- need to reduce the backup window
I'd like to use something like IASO to get the data offsite and provide the potential for instantiating a VM in the cloud in the event of total loss of the office. I could also add a local cache to speed local recovery for smaller events.
However, the storage cost is very high for this volume of data. Also, they currently only have ADSL2+ and I'm concerned.
Any ideas of how I can achieve a fully automated backup regime that meets the RTO and RPO requirements without breaking the bank?
