Rolling out a new virtualization environment, and have installed UEB vm onto an ESXi 5.1U1 host. Because there's a couple of us working on it, a few times now someone has triggered a VMWare update remediation that has caused the ESXi host on which UEB is running to shutdown in the middle of a backup. However, since the UEB VM does not have vmware tools installed, there was no graceful shutdown.
Obviously, best practice in a production environment means this wouldn't have happened... but we're still in the pre-production "playing with new toys" phase... so these things happen.
But it got me thinking... is it acceptable practice to install the vmware tools onto the actual UEB vm so host and vcenter triggered maintenance/shutdowns are handled gracefully?
