Scenario: currently 2 physical servers, one being retired. New VoIP system was installed which included a new server running ESX and one VM to run VoIP software. Planning to install three more VM's on same new server (no issues with hardware). VMWare is new to our environment, we have limited budget as we are non-profit. I have 75 users, in-house DC, Exchange, SEP, BackupExec, File/Print. Server not being retired is older hardware and not a candidate for attaching a new tape drive to.
What is the best backup solution? All data will be local to the server (no SAN). I've looked at Datto as a possibility for backup and "hot spare" to mount VM's but it's monthly fees are too expensive for our budget. Stay with Backup Exec and tape? I'd need another hardware server and tape drive to do this solution in order to backup the VM's - right?
