I'm in the process of evaluating a unitrends 813 appliance.
During my sales call & while working with a eval engineer i was repeatedly told backing up over the wan isn't supported.
I just wanted to post that I managed to get my remote windows 2008 server backing up without the use of a VPN.
using the following docs, i modified the firewall at my remote & local site, and modified the master.ini on the 2008 server as the dns wasn't able to resolve the internal hostname of the unitrends appliance.
I found the logs in C:\PCBP\Logs.dir on the client very helpful for troubleshooting while getting this to work.
I used the followingKB articles from Unitrend's site note that all the ports are TCP ports
