I'm working on a proposal to take over the IT Support for a potential client and I'm getting a little stuck on what sort of backup strategy I should suggest to them. Here's what they have:
- 2 Locations housing:
- 50/50 Mac/PC
- A single Win 2012 Server
I'm thinking of simply offering an 8TB Synology NAS to allow for Time Machine backups for the Macs and using CA or StorageCraft included with my RMM software for the windows desktops and server. I'll VPN the two locations allowing for the smaller office to backup over the net to the NAS at the main office. I'd also offer them the opportunity to back the NAS up to Amazon s3 or other cloud service for redundancy.
My main issues with this are I'm not sure I can make a "warm" VM backup on the NAS in the event the server takes a dive. In fact I'm pretty sure I can't. Also, I'm not sure how...
