I am currently planning to backup solution for our school. I'm considering a few options including Veeam. I'd like to ask the Spiceworks community their thoughts on using some of Microsoft's built in tools: DFSR, Hyper-V replica and Previous Versions/Shadow Copy. More specifically their reliability as a collective backup solution.
The school has two campuses connected with a VPN using Internet connections (20Mbps up and down and 50Mbps up and down). Currently DFS replicates shared drives to provide transparency for roaming staff. The campuses are 30kms apart.
Hyper-V replicates some VMs onto a standby host. I am planning to migrate other VMs from an old SAN to the Hyper-V host and decommission the SAN.
Previous Versions/Shadow Copies are currently enabled but we rely on PowerShell script which leverages Windows Backup to backup most VMs.
