Hey All -
I recently purchased a Seagate 2.5TB drive for use in storing Shadow Copies. The idea is to use it as a tertiary backup system for any data drives.
If I go into Shadow Copy configuration for any drive and try to choose the Storage Area (destination) location, the external drive is missing from the drop down box.
If I open an elevated Command Prompt and run "vssadmin add shadowstorage /for=d: /on=i: /maxsize=20%" it returns the following error: "Error: Shadow copying the specified volume is not supported."
I've tried setting up Shadow Copies on the external drive for itself, and it works perfectly. I've also tried creating a manual shadow copy (via vssadmin create shadow) and that works perfectly, too.
Any thoughts or suggestions? I'm inclined to think this is an issue with drive formatting (file system, sector size, etc), but...
