I am really looking for a discussion here, probably no "Best" answer, as all environments are different....
I have recently purchased a Unitrends system, and I am in the process of setting it up. I have to admit, so far, LOVE IT!.
I do have some questions though. I was told that if I want to use the SQL Backups, I need to turn off any maintenance plans that do backups. I may not have a problem with that in the future, but it is hard to take that leap of faith to a new system. I know that my backups are functioning properly now, and I can restore fine from them. I do a full daily and incrementals every 4 hours, which fits with our SLA's without any problems.
What I am looking for is some insight as to how SQL Backups to Unitrends has worked for you, and what your confidence level is.
Is there a way I could use both systems for the time being? I have many databases that are in the 30+ GB range and do not want to be caught in a situation where I cannot restore a database properly.
If SQL Maintenance plans need to be shut down, can someone explain why?
Thanks for any comments
