Backup Exec 10d

Hi all,

I realize the software in question is old, and antique and will probably be replaced soonish but this still needs to be resolved before that.

Seems for a little while now, our full weekend backups fail or hang, but not our incremental daily backups. Everything is being backed up to an HP MSL2024 Tape Library.

The weekend backup will either fail with the following error message, or require the the backup to be cancelled:

Job Completion Status
Job ended: Saturday, April 05, 2014 at 2:07:10 AM
Completed status: Failed
Final error: 0xe00084ec - Error reading/writing data from/to the media.
Final error category: Backup Media Errors

For additional information regarding this error refer to link V-79-57344-34028

Errors
Click an error below to locate it in the job log
Backup- E:
Storage device "HP 1" reported an error on a request to write data to media.Error reported:Data error (cyclic redundancy check). This could be caused by either a dirty tape drive, bad media, or a SCSI problem.V-79-57344-34028 - Error reading/writing data from/to the media.

Also at random the HP Tape Library will mention tapes in slot XX is invalid despite the fact that its a brand new tape every time. The slot it deems invalid, seems to be different every time and not consistent.

I should mention all tapes that are being used for weekend backups are brand new LTO3 tapes. Here's what I've done so far:

  • Replaced cleaning cartridge
  • Restarted server, and HP Tape Library
  • Repaired the installation of BackupExec in case of file corruption
  • Uses same selection list of file to back up as our daily(incremental) backups which don't have any issues, just full blown jobs do.

Any ideas?
