We have Backup Exec 2012 with the VMWare agents to backup our VMWare vSphere environment, this provides backups at the VM level successfully.
I noticed the GRT options in the backup job which I would like to use to recover at the file level, however these do not seem to work. When I go to do a restore, all I can select is a VM and I am not able to drill down into the VM itself. This is the exception I see when running the backup job with GRT enabled:
The job completed successfully. However, the following conditions were encountered: One or more virtual disks contain volumes that do not support Granular Recovery Technology (GRT). Granular restores cannot be performed for these volumes.
Basically I need to know if it is possible to backup VMs with the VMware agent and be able to restore at the file level, perhaps I need an additional agent for this, does this incur a cost?
I would also like to be able to recover Active Directory but I think I need an agent for that too?
