Hi All,
I'm looking at replacing our tape backup solution with disk based and removing the need for Backup Exec.
We're also setting up a Hyper-V environment. I've had a bunch of quotes on SANs and different backup software...trying to find the right one that requires the least management.
The design involves using the SAN to provide storage for the virtual environment. The SAN will sit along side other storage like a QNAP device (NAS), Exchange etc. All of this data including the SAN will be dedupe'd and stored as a repository on a dedicated backup server. I would then like this to be replicated off-site a second QNAP, or a second backup device - which will replace tapes.
The options so far were -
- Veeam - great product but we have physical servers that need backing up, so it has been ruled out.
- Acronis - It de-duplicates data from NAS, file servers, Exchange etc. which is great, but it does not replicate this dedupe'd data to an off-site target...which is unfortunate.
- AppAssure - provided by Dell (one of our vendors on the shortlist). Looks OK but it does not backup NAS. Also the reviews seem pretty awful.
- ArcSERVE - Don't know much about this one.
Any one know of a good backup software that can de-dupefrom NAS and other servers, then replicate this data off-site?
Cheers!
Milind.
