I have been having a lot of problems regarding my backups. Every time the software updates, it hoses my dedup stuff. In September, we decided to "decommission" our tape drive. We simply unplugged it and took it offline. It is still racked and I did not delete it out of our software. Well since a recent update, I have been forced to plug this tape drive back in. I can browse the tapes in the software and see that the file I need to restore is there but anytime I go in, it does not list the tape as a valid recovery target. It only lists the disk drives. Which is down because of whatever reason (engineering is involved but taking forever). I have been told they are unsure if I will be able to get this data back, even though I can see it when I browse the disk! So now I am faced with the possibility of losing 2 years of deduplicated data. I am about DONE with software based deduplication. This is the 3rd time I have had to take my drives offline while they try to solve the problem. THIS IS NOT OKAY!!! I have already disabled any automatic updating and am trying really hard to figure our why I cant get at the data on my tapes. This is more of a rant than anything, but it just pisses me off to no end!
