Hi all. Please bear with me here!
I'm using backupexec 10, but I guess whichever solution I use, the same question would be relevant.
So, I full backups monthly and weekly, with daily differentials. If a user knowingly deletes a file, and tells me, I can restore it.
However, this is the scenario I'm faced with solving.
If a user creates a file on Monday, the file gets backed up Monday night. Again, it gets backed up Tuesday night (Differential, so will continue to back the same file up until the next full backup). BUT, if the file gets deleted, then it will be gone - forever, once the differential tape gets overwritten. How can I make sure that all files, even if they are deleted, are still backed up?
If a bunch of files get deleted tomorrow, but we don't notice for six months, then need to get them back, how would this be achieved? Which backup strategy would I need?
We currently backup between 4-5TB for a full backup onto LTO4 tapes using an 8 slot autoloader. Even if I staged to disk, I still see I would be hit with the same problem.
Help much appreciated and much needed! Thanks!
