Since virtualizing half of our servers we are looking for a new backup solution. (we currently use backup exec 2010, to tape)
As we have both physical and virtual machines (and currently using ESXi free) it discounts VEEAM, so my main contenders are Appassure and Unitrends at the moment.
NB we have a second site with an ESXi free server that I can use for replication.
I'm currently trying out Unitrends and so far it all looks good.
My question is: since both Appassure and Unitrends use agents to backup systems, and can therefore work with ESXi free, is it worth me upgrading to essentials so I can backup the VM's 'properly'? They include our Exchange 2007 server, file server, and our main database server.
Is it just ease/speed of recovery that'll improve by backing them up as VM? and how would I justify the extra cost to the bosses when the backup software is already fairly expensive?
