Hi,
I found, "literally" , a box of DDS2, DDS3 and some 8GB tapes carelessly thrown in a box in a storeroom. Tapes seem to contain Finance SQL backups from around the year 2000 and newer. Aside from the debate as to having to legally keep/destroy etc, do you need the original software it was made with to be able to restore it? It's a nerdy thing wanting to see if it can work.
I have the hardware it was made with but the box (486?) no longer boots. The drive and SCSI card still works as I manged to install it on an XP box, drivers automatically detected and installed. I installed a copy of Tapeware that I found with another HP Tape drive taking much bigger tapes. It seems to try and read but give various errors on the three tapes I tried. "Incorrect block size" to "Unformatted media"
I assume the drive could be faulty....
Cheers!
