I have a client where they have a MSSQL database that gets backed up 2 times a day. This backup occurs at 10am and 1am - size at the moment is around 20GB. The thing here is they were backing up the database to Blu Ray discs which we all know holds only 25GB max. So they have gobs of daily backups on these discs. Every Friday - we give a daily backup to the manager for off-site. ( I'm pretty sure it goes in a safe somewhere. )
I need to suggest a better solution of daily backups as the database grows about a gig a day and cd's will simply not hold. I'm thinking of ordering external hard drives, and making a copy of the db onto them. As far as having an offsite solution - I'm not sure if we swap hard drives every week maybe a cycle of 6 drives?
Also on the server we like to keep a weeks worth of backups available at any given time.
I thought maybe there was a better way to accomplish this than my initial thoughts.
