Windows Shadow Copy schedule error

So we had shadow copies enabled a while back but they were disabled for various reasons.  Now I want to re-enable them, I went into the configs, deleted the previous copies (as they were very old), selected a new drive to make the copies on, but when I click on "schedule" it throws this error:  failed to create a default schedule for creating shadow copies of volume E  error 0x80070050 the file exists

after a decent google search I can find lots of access is denied errors, and a few other odd errors, but nothing with "the file exists".   I am fairly certain this will trip over our backup solution so I need to change the schedule.   Anyone seen this error before or thoughts on how to get around it?
