We have a file server with several shares that runs Ubuntu Server 10.04 LTS. It is currently backed up using tapes based on a method that was created by two members of the department who are no longer with the organization. I don't trust that it works, or understand how it works. We are eventually going to virtualize and change our backup procedure, but as a workaround to make me feel better my supervisor got me an external hard drive and said "use it". The server is located about an hour from where I am based. I was hoping to just plug it in where I'm based and backup over the network. The first time I know it will be very heavy, but if I plan it correctly, it would only really be an issue the first time.
I was thinking I might just use CLI. Any tips?
