In the last year I migrated our desktop backup system from Retrospect to Crashplan Pro E (self-hosted), for our 100+ system academic research lab. We've got a number of backup archives in Retrospect that are from computers that were decommissioned a while ago, and that we'd like to archive the user data from. The general policy around here is to keep all desktop data, as historically our central storage shares weren't large enough for everyone to keep important data in one place. I don't want to leave the data in the Retrospect archives, due to innumerable issues with corruption in the past, storing a lot of unnecessary system files (current backups were for bare-metal, I only need to keep user files), and wanting to decommission the old NAS units the data is currently sitting on.
In the the interim, I've been restoring everything...
