Hyper-V 2012 R2 - Checkpoint "Backups" - how to delete?

We migrated a physical box to a hyper-v VM~2 months ago - for some reason there have been automatic checkpoints created (they don't appear to be regular hyper-v checkpoints) - they are titled 'SERVERNAME - Backup (date/time)'

When you right click the checkpoints there are no options to delete them - and the VHD folder is currently full of AVHDs - I'm not sure if these are acting like regular checkpoints where the VM utilises all of the disk files (and requires the links) - or if they are simply backups and not relevant to the running of the VM itself.

First question - is there a way to delete these? I don't think they are related to our "normal" backups (we have lots of other VMs running without these issues) - so I'd prefer not to have them.

What causes them? there was backup software (Symantec remote agent)left on the server after the...
