I have a refresh of our backup hardware environment early next year.
I'm using it as an opportunity to explore how we do backups and potentially the product we use.
Right now we do D2D2T with the D2D part being globally deduplicated and each week we write about 40TB to tape (20TB x 2 copies).
Vendors who only offer disk will naturally tell you that tape is dead, obsolete, replication is the way it's going etc. and whether they're right or wrong is what I'm wrestling with.
I will say that I'm happier with a box of tapes that is physically airgapped that "something bad" cannot influence as easily as "something connected to a network" (fat fingers, malice, bad vendor update etc.).
