I have almost completed the set-up of our first 4 virtual hosts each with 2 guests on it, all Windows 2012 R2. Two of the virtual machines are Domain controllers (on separate hosts), 2 are Remote Desktop Servers(on separate hosts), and other misc. servers. I do not have any budget for backup solutions, and I have read that Windows Server Backup can now somewhat reliably back up hyper-v guests. Would the Windows Backup be recommended, or is there other software that is superior, easier to use and the most important part, free?Currentlyfor our other non-virtualized servers, we use system state data backups. If we go with Windows Backup, do we do a system state and the hyper-v backup on the host? would it require us to do anything on the virtual machines?
