We have been testing how UEB does its synthesized backups and how it handles the retention of backups. We currently have three VMs (2 Linux and 1 Windows 7) which are being backed-up by UEB. The retention setting for these are Linux1 at 3-14-0 (Min-Max-Legal), Linux2 at 3-7-0, and Windows7 at 3-32-0. The internal storage capacity is 498GB.
Over the last three weeks all the backups of the VMs have been created mostly as expected. The backups are running at the times scheduled and synthesized backups appear to be created when appropriate. The purging for the two Linux VMs appear to be working correctly. No purge for the Windows7 VM was expected, unless of course the internal storage capacity became exhausted, due to the 32 day maximum retention setting.
Then a few day ago, UEB deleted nine (9) backup groups from the Windows7 backups and...
