Been in debates with my supervisor with what media devices to use for backup and thought I would throw it into here. The reason why we are in debates is because we are needing to upgrade what we have currently and well he is very strong towards tape drives and that is the only viable solution on the planet that they have been around for years and the reason is because they just work. I have tried to sway that tapes themselves are magnetic and typically have a shelf life of about a year and that CD's or DVD's have a shelf life of about 5 years and that the way to go is through hard drives. They are inexpensive and can last a lot longer than a tape backup plus the cost for a new tape drive with new tapes will be about 4k. We can get a lot of hard drives for that price and have a ton of space and more options. While I know I cant...
