Anyone out there using Starwind Tape Redirector to make backup to tape possible from a VM running on a Hyper-V 2012 Core host? If so, what experience have you had? is it a viable solution? how fast are your backups, i.e. are you getting comparable speeds to what you'd expect when using SCSI natively?

It's only at a planning stage at the moment: the VM will be running BackupExec 2010 R3 or 2012, OS will be 2008 R2 (or 2012) Std. The hypervisor will be Hyper-V 2012 Core (the free one). The tape drive is using a SCSI connection. The server h/w is Dell T410 and the drive is Dell Powervault LTO5-140 (a standalone drive).
