We're looking to upgrade from a 4TB/8TB(compressed) Barracuda appliance since it's near capacity. I'm told the larger Barracuda appliance is too costly. I looked at Unitrends since it gets such rave reviews here. Their hardware appliances are just as expensive as Barracuda if not more-so ($40k+ for 16TB). I looked into the Unitrends virtual appliance, but the space-based pricing for 10TB makes it nearly as expensive as the hardware appliance after combining it with a $13k Dell NX3200 with 12x2TB drives in RAID6.
My boss envisions spending $13k for the disks, then another $5k tops on some backup software (Or around $18k total for an appliance).
Any recommendations in that price range? It isn't easy when backup vendors don't post pricing and make you go through a full sales process just to see if they're even in budget.
