Backup strategy for multi-terabyte and growing medical image storage?

Need a good strategy for backing up a large amount of data for a physician's office's medical images. They use an a Vivid q ultrasound machine. The images are transferred to a laptop where the doctor reviews the images. About once a week they "disk manage" the images to a Synology DiskStation DS413.

Currently they have about 2.5TB of data. They're on schedule to add about 1.5TB of data every year. The Dr. may be getting close to retirement so probably not a whole lot more than 10 years or so. The patients are children and I've been told that they need to keep the images forever rather than 5 years or whatever the standard is for adult medical images.

They do have more than one copy of that set of images, but that workflow is going away. We'll be starting with just one copy of the data - on the Synology server. That server, or NAS...
