Is anyone using the built in backup in server 2012 for hyper-v?

I'm working on a single server installation. It will be a DC with AD that shares files, replacing an old Server 2003 box that did the same. I'm pretty sure they'll be going with an internal RD1000 drive for backups. I want to set it up with a VM using hyper-v to run all of the above.

They won't be doing any cloud backup or have a NAS or second server. They only have 4 workstations and the server. The old server is being replaced because it is running low on space and due to age they'd rather replace it than add more storage to it.

So, my question - the built in backup in 2012 supports hyper-v, but does it do a good job of it? If I use it to schedule snapshots of the VM and regular backups of the host will I be covered in case of a failure?
