Overhauling backups at one of our larger clients. It is currently a mish-mash, so making all backups regular will make life simpler.
We are only interested in backing up about half-a-dozen servers here. Total data set is around 4TB, although most of it is static (old)so dailies are not too big (maybe a couple of hundred GBeach for differential backups, obviously less for incrementals)
Current plan is to use a second physical subnet that we already have in place, and which is only connected to second NICs of the servers in question. We can put a large NAS on it and backup during the day, if needed,as well as at night, as most servers are not heavily loaded and it won't impact network traffic. The SQL server is fairly stout, and could handle snapshots every hour if we want to go that far. The NAS is planned to be big enough to hold several...
