I spent most of the day Friday fine tuning my new Unitrends Enterprise Backup System, getting all of the servers registered and creating our exclusion list and backup selections and schedules. I was so excited to see how it all shook out when I came in this morning.
Well... When I got in the web console would not respond and the console in the Vsphere client was full of disk read / write errors. I was instructed to power down the virtual machine and restart but it hung at 95% so I had to get off the phone with Unitrends to troubleshoot VMWare. Finally got the virtual machine shut down and re-added to inventory but then it would not start.
Long story short, I am back to square one, deploying the software from scratch again and with no full backups for the weekend. I am sure once this is all up and running that I will be happy, but part of me longs for the day when backup exec didn't suck so bad and setting it up took 20 minutes and cost a couple hundred dollars. Nowadays everything is expensive, complicated and never seems to work from the get go.
