We're looking at shifting a bunch of old archive data onto a Synology NAS.
Our archive process involves blu-ray (not my call) and whilst this is fine for bringing back odd projects, should the Synology shit itself and we lose 2tb of archive data I'm sure as hell not going to be shovelling in 100 blu-ray discs to bring the data back.
The Synology has an Amazon Glacier plug-in and it seems that for 2tb of data it's $20 a month to store it - sure to retrieve it there's a hit depending on the restore speed but it's still better than hitting the blu-ray's.
Is anyone using Glacier and if so is there anything to be aware of?
It doesn't appear they let you use your own encryption keys - how much of an issue is that assuming we're in a fairly paranoid line of business?
