I have taken over IT for a small company, replacing the IT guy that was here for 7 years. In his time here there was never a backup or disaster strategy implemented, heck, half my workstations are not even on the domain. so I am tasked with planning and implementing a complete backup solution for my environment. I'm a little overwhelmed at the moment due to my previous employment, we had a guy that handled the backup stuff and I never touched it. I'm currently looking at Symantec BUE 2012, Unitrends, and possibly AppAssure and EMC. My biggest concern is our PACS and EMR servers. We retain the PACS stuff for 7 years, I've also got a server that runs Citrix and web-hosting stuff, and of course my Domain controller. Everything is physical at the moment with hopeful plans to virtualize in the future. I have a spare Dell PowerEdge 2900 with a MD1000 (5x1TB SATAs) attached to it. I think I've got about 5TB of data uncompressed that need to be backed up. Any advice on how to get this ball rolling would be very appreciated.
