For the Symantec guys here
Our VC backup job backs up our entire virtual machine list, but it does not have GRT enabled. My understanding from the guy who set this up was that enabling GRT meant that there are effectively two backups, one being the VMDKs, and then the file level backup, doubling the time to backup more or less, and doubling the disk space consumed. (This would mean a whole lot more disk space than we currently have.)
Is this a correct understanding?
Or is it that somehow the restore process can peer into the VMDK to pull out individual files on a server for which GRT is not enabled.?
We have a few servers that we additionally use GRT/Windows Agent so we can restore individual files, but I'm wondering whether this is really necessary.
