I am in the market for a new backup solution. I have been playing around with FreeNAS for about 3 weeks and I like it but I'd like to get a dedicated piece of hardware to fulfill the role of a NAS. Currently I'm interested in a Synology DS214+ NAS.
We have 30 staff and some have laptops and desktops. We have 5 servers but technically their just windows desktops acting as servers.
Our main data consist of the following:
- ISO's
- Office Docs / PDFs
- Zip files (back up of someone's window user profile just saved as a zip)
I currently back up our data in two ways. I use a 1 TB external usb drive which I have 90% of all our data on. I take this with me daily. Problem is my remote users with laptops, they currently have a mix of Google Drive and Dropbox for their storage. We have too many silos and I'd like to put it back to a centralized point. We have 1 additional site that is not in the city that has no backup at all but I'd like to use it as a backup destination for a mirror.
My Goal: Provide a fast and easy backup solution to back up northwards to 1 TB of data locally but also as a file server. I would also consider getting the same NAS and installing it at separate location for DR. I don't know how I can get my clients with laptops to back up while offsite and need a solution for that (basically I'm using Google Drive with folder redirection but we only have one account and Google Drive doesn't like multiple login attempts from the same account).
