Hi All,
Having a recent nightmare with the Exchange VSS writer on one of our Exchange 2010 DAG members, whereby for reasons I am yet to fathom out, the Veeam v7 backup job relating to it has started failing with a VSS timeout error.
Looking further into it, I can see that it's not a Veeam issue, but it's actually the VSS writer for Exchange, which is failing to freeze the guest for a snapshot.
Now comes the weird part... The backup only fails if the DAG member has ACTIVE copies of the mbx databases on it! If I switch over the active copies to our other DAG member, and manually run the Veeam job, it works absolutely FINE. As soon as I move the active copies back to the problematic DAG member and try to backup again, it fails with the same error.
If I run VSSadmin.exe list writers, I see that the Microsoft Exchange VSS Writer shows a status of:
[9] Failed
Timed Out.
I have tried:
Resetting the VSS writer manually (by restarting the Information Store service)
Rebooting the server (all VSS writers then show as Stable)
Excluding VSS-related services/processes from AV on-demand scanning
Adding the registry key to increase VSS timeout value to 20 minutes (HKLM\Software\\Microsoft\\Windows NT\\CurrentVersion\\SPP\\CreateTimeout)
Turning off parallel VM processing in Veeam
None of these have made any difference. I am about to try re-registering all VSS dll files, as mentioned here:
http:/
Does anyone have any clues?
Thanks in advance
Dave
