Hello everyone.
Today, we are currently backing up to tape, using Backup Exec 2010. We're quickly running out of tape space, and rather than buy bigger tapes, I'd like to eliminate tape and backup to one of our offsite, fiber connected locations. All the servers that we're backing up are virtual (VMWare). We are not doing snapshots, just backing up as if they were physical (files, system state, etc.).
To keep costs down, I'd like to continue using Backup Exec if possible. We're looking at placing a QNAP TS-1079 Pro at the offsite location. We would do a full backup/copy onsite, then move the QNAP to the offsite location. From my understanding, we can then just transfer the bits that have changed since the last backup. We only have a 5MB connection between locations and about 1TB of data being backed up, so we need to keep down how much is actually getting transferred daily to stay within our backup window.
My question is, does anyone else use this setup or something similar, and what are the pros/cons of this solution?
Thanks!
