Hi,
I'm starting to design a new backup for our VMs and files.
I'd like to hear your opinions if what I'm planning makes sense.
Requirements and background:
- I want to backup 10 VMs (VMware), about 1 TB of data, very little change on daily basis
- I want to be able to restore whole VMs as well as single files (inc. Exchange 2007 emails and AD objects)
- the main reason is to have a quickly available backup that's not in the same location as the server room (theft, fire etc)
- the room with backup storage will be 300m away from the server room, connected via Gigabit Ethernet and a few SMB Linksys switches
- the backup room has only a rack, one Cisco SG300 switch and space for rack mountable storage (SAN, NAS whatever you suggest)
- speed is not important.
And here's a solution I was thinking about using:
- Veeam Essentials Enterprise (4 sockets)
- some sort of NAS (Synology?), 1U, 6x 2TB HDDs, RAID 10. I don't have a specific model in mind yet.
Any ideas if that solution make sense?
Any suggestions how to improve it?
edit: thanks for feedback everyone.
I will follow the plan as above and I will look for an inexpensive cloud solution. Any cloud storage providers that you would recommend?
