I'm running a MS SBSSERVER 2011 with a MS Exchange 2010 on it. I'm backing everything (i.e. bare metal including the MS Exchange) to a local drive every night. This works well.
As I understand the SBSSERVER backup is Exchange 'aware' such that the Exchange log files are removed once backed up.
Now the question: I'd like to backup everything to an offsite network share as well. Now I understand that it is not possible to do incremental backups this way - the backup is over written every time.
Is it possible to keep the local schedule as is, but add another separate/independent backup schedule to backup to the network share? Thus, I'll always have an incremental that could cover a number of days. As well as a full backup network backup (non incremental, because this is a SBS 2011 limitation) for larger disasters. This covers only one instance in time - the time of backup.
How will MS Exchange be affected? Since if the local backup is done 1ste, the log files needed for an 'aware' backup will be gone by the time the independent network backup starts?
Thanks for any comments - I'm very curious as to if this is at all possible.
