Tape drive failing looking for solutions

We currently backup 10 windows 2003 servers using Symantec Backup Exec System Recovery over night.

We also backup 1 Mac Server and 1 Linux Server.

These backup go to an old windows 2003 Server with a 2TB Sata Drive.

Total backup size is currently < 1TB but may grow

The backups are then backed up to tape on a daily basis for off site using an external Quantum LTO-2 tape drive (Ultra 160 SCSI) and Symantec Backup Exec 11d quick start edition which was bundled with the tape drive.

About a year ago the LTO-2 Drive failed and I managed to source a replacement but recently it has started to fail again so I am looking into options to replace this with either another tape drive or removable hard drives.

The server hosting this solution is quite old and only supports PCI cards and not the newer PCIe.

All our servers are currently physical metal boxes however we do plan to virtualize at some point in the future.

I guess I have a number of options open to me and I would like to explore all available avenues and the possibility of a total new solution.

All advice and suggestions would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks in advance
