Backups kill network access?!?

I have a r510 that is running backup exec 2010 R3 that has a single tape tandberg drive attached to it. This server also acts as a file repository for our art department. During the day I have a file diff set to run at noon to tape. When this diff runs for whatever reason our wi-fi goes down and the file share on the server become accessible. When trying to access the drive which is mapped at login for user the icon will spin until it finally crashes explorer. The server is hooked up to 2 different switches that each have their own ip (is that correct?). Could it be a router or switch problem? The only ay to get connectivity back for that drive is to restart the machine. I can ping and remote into the server but the trying to access the file share from a client crashes explorer.

I plan to run wireshark over night to check out what is going on during backups. But even with that I need some more ideas to troubleshoot this issue? Thanks in advance
